Wilfred E. "Bill" Wavering, 89 of Springfield, died at 2:30 pm, Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at his home. He was born February 9, 1923, the son of Albert J. and Catherine J. Schulte Wavering in Quincy, IL. He married Carlene A. Spettnagel June 12, 1948 at Saint Mary's Church in Quincy. Wilfred was a member of the Church of the Little Flower and a former member of Knights of Columbus. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving in the Medical Corp during WWII, from 1943 until 1946. He was employed at St. John's Sanatorium as Business Administrator from 1953-1973. He retired as an Accounts Manager from St. John's Hospital after employment from 1973-1984.
Mr. Wavering is survived by his wife, Carlene A. Wavering of Springfield; two daughters,
Marie (Todd) Ringenberg of Glen Ellyn, IL, Karen (Donald) Rosenwinkel of Oak Park, IL; three sons, Mark E. Wavering of Phoenix, AZ, David J. (Janet) Wavering of Springfield, IL, Col. Kenneth (Kelly) Wavering of O'Fallon, IL; six grandchildren, Allison, Erika, Abbey, Hannah, Henry and Lillian; two sisters, Mary K. Brinkman and Regina (Donald) Blickhan both of Quincy, IL; one brother, Albert J. (Marilyn) Wavering of Gainsville, VA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, grandson, David, sister, Rita Thomas and brother, Robert Wavering.
Bill was a loving and dedicated husband, father and friend. We will miss him dearly.
Visitation: 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m., Friday, February 17, 2012, Staab Funeral Home with a prayer service being held at 5:00 p.m.
Funeral Mass: 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 18, 2012 at Church of the Little Flower, with Monsignor John Ossola officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Sangamon County Interveterans Burial Detail following mass.
Interment: 12 Noon, Monday, February 20, 2012 at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
